Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge Celebration

A Celebration was held Friday, March 3 in honor of the grand opening of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. This bridge has to be the most dramatic addition to the Dallas skyline yet. This bridge commemorates the late philanthropist, Margaret Hunt Hill and designed by the visionary architect Santiago Calatrava.

The celebration consisted of headlining band Lyle Lovett, and and parade of 14 foot Calatrava inspired costume designs, local food, tastings from Trinity Grove's award winning chefs, speciality drinks and great entertainment. The award winning Street Corner Symphony performed followed by a firework show and the lighting of the bridge.

The bridge rises above the Trinity River 400 feet and is composed of 58 cables some to be eight inches thick which extend in weblike sweeps to either side. This bridge now provides easy access from downtown to the neighborhood of West Dallas.

Some other monumental bridges found around the world:

The Dragon Eco Bridge - Beijing, China

Stari Most Bridge - City of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Henderson Waves Pedestrian Bridge - Singapore

The Sydney Harbor Bridge - Sydney, Australia

The Rialto Bridge - Venice, Italy

Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge - Sao Paulo, Brazil

Si-o-Se Poi Bridge - Isfahan

The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, also known as the Pearl Bridge - Japan

"Sometimes, if you aren't sure about something, you have to just jump off the bridge and grow wings on your way down."

Wooing over Wu...Brizo Intro's Fashion Designers New Plumbing Line

Introducing The Jason Wu Collection From Brizo

Many notable interior designers have licensed out their name and designs - everything from plumbing to wallpaper to dinnerware.  With interior designer Kelly Wearstler taking a foothold in the fashion world, the fashion designers are uping the ante!  In collaboration with Brizo, the innovative, up and coming fashion designer Jason Wu, has veered off the runway to use his fashion aesthetic, to produce an intriguing collection for the world of interior design.

The Jason Wu Collection incorporates his signature Baroque Flower in each design. One of the unique features about this inspiring collection is the incredible "Touch Technology."  The faucet was designed to turn on and off based upon proximity-Brizo is taking that commercial aspect of handsfree and incorporating it into their plumbing fixtures, including kitchen and bath fixtures.  Very cool - no more spotty faucets!

Check out the variety of products this collection offers!

Faucet Shown in Matte Black - a finish that will take off in the next couple of years for sure!

Oops...I DID it AGAIN - Two toned is back with a fierceness that says this isn't 1992.

In this collection all fixtures and accessories come in Matte Black with either Polished Chrome or Brushed Nickel accents.  Also Wu has donated numbered lithographs of his fashion designs for those who pre-order their pieces in time.  Limited quantities.  Contact your local plumbing showroom for more deets!

I was invited to the new Brizo H20 Dream Showroom last month at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago and if you are in the Windy City - you MUST stop by.  It is by FAR the most innovative showroom to date in terms of interior accouretements.  There is a huge iPAD mounted to the wall where it was so fun to play around the selections - most of the showrooms fixtures are working as well so you are able to be very hands on and know exactly what you are buying.  The hard part was not getting into water fights with the other designers! Ha...check out the dD Facebook page for more photos of the showroom and fun!

Celebration of Design 2011

Celebration of Design October 11-14 2011

Visit the link to See a List of Events and Registration

Featuring Keynote Speaker

This is a 4 day celebration filled of events dedicated strictly to design. Be apart of the celebration with fellow designers and local showrooms. Showrooms in the Decorative Center will be sponsoring these exciting events. One event I am particularly excited about is: The Intricacies of Design, Presented by Alexa Hampton at Brown Jordan October 13 at 1:00-3:00.

I do not really go ga-ga over celebrities and movie stars but my nerd odometer quickly rises when I hear of notable architects and designers coming to town. I am so proud that Dallas has upped the culture ante here and is now a stopping point for these trend makers and innovators of the word!

Your dallasDECORUM blogger has the privilege of interviewing Alexa Hampton before the event. Alexa is the daughter of the late Marc Hampton and has now taken command of the empire so if there is anything you are dying to know, shoot me an email! Also the interview will be posted on my blog so come back to see what designing tips she has for homeowners and designers alike!

Here is a peak at some of Alexa Hampton's current work and you will see why House Beautiful has listed her as 'Americas Best 100 Designers' and New York Magazine has her listed as '100 Best Architects & Decorators.'

Lighting For Visual Comfort

This is an event you will not want to miss! It's not too late to register tickets are still available for all events.

Also for interior design students, ASID is working in conjunction with Celebration Design for the ASID Student's Symposium 2011, which I will be sitting on the Round Table discussion panel. So student's please come in and interrogate us for an inside look into the REAL world of interior design!
